Annual Women's Auction Benefits Haiti
By Katie Suter
The Annual Redeemer Hoboken Women's Auction is a no-brainer; women clean out their closets, get fabulous used apparel and accessories for rock-bottom prices, and get to raise money for a good cause-- all while reconnecting with good friends and making new ones. This year, due to news of the tragic earthquake in Haiti, we set out to surpass our previous earnings record of $400 from last year and raise at least $500 to support medical missions teams sent out by Infinity Church of the Bronx. The women of Redeemer Hoboken scored fabulous bargains (I'm elated when I put on my gorgeous twelve-dollar Cynthia Rowley skirt!!!), and donated above and beyond the cost of their auction items.
At the end of two hours of shopping, with bids starting at $2/item, we had raised $633. As women handed me checks for amounts far beyond the cost of their auction items, I remembered Paul's letter to the Corinthian church in which he wrote: "You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God." (II Corinthians 9:11). Praise God for the generous (and stylish) women of Redeemer Hoboken.
