Meet Your Trustees
Joel Peterson
I grew up south of Buffalo in Panama, NY - population 491 (2000 census) and graduated from Cedarville University in 1999 with ~500 other people. Fresh out of college and green, with equal parts drive and culture shock I began my new life in the greater New York City area. God's continual protection and leading of my life was evident at the outset as Christian co-workers told me about an upcoming Redeemer church plant in Hoboken. My first weekend of looking for a church was Redeemer Hoboken's first organized service - where I have been ever since. Redeemer Hoboken is where I have been able to praise and worship God, experience His love in small groups and make some of the best and lasting friendships I have ever made.
I met my lovely wife, Sara, here at church and we were married in April of 2003. In August of 2009 we had our son Seth Andrew.
Redeemer Hoboken is always looking for people interested in being a trustee. The role of the trustee is to oversee and help account for the money coming in and going out of the church’s accounts. In addition to making the weekly bank deposit the trustees also meet quarterly to ensure the spending lines up with the approved budget. If this sounds interesting to you, and you are a member of Redeemer Hoboken (or are becoming one) please let me know.

I am one of the few Garden State natives in Redeemer Hoboken, the only time I've really lived out of the state were my college years (I'm not sure that is something to be proud of). I graduated from Penn State in 2000 with a degree in Finance (though it would have been History if I thought there was anything I could do with the degree besides bore high schoolers with the subject). I've been attending Redeemer Hoboken since 2001, and have been amazed at God's work in growing the church, and have enjoyed serving under the many great leaders He has provided us with.
I live in Jersey City in an amazing community of believers with my wife Jenn and my son Owen. We enjoy family time together, either watching Owen making a mess in his high chair or swinging at the park across the street, traveling, watching Lost, and sitting on the porch with our neighbors when the weather is nice. I enjoy watching Penn State football in the fall (key word being "I", Jenn typically leaves the living room and/or the house when the games are on and my blood pressure starts to boil over), being active, reading and photography.

After living in NYC since 1977 and attempting a long-desired relocation back to Florida in 2003, I realized that I am a New Yorker! It had never occurred to me that I’d get back down South and find out that it just didn’t work for me anymore! And now Hoboken - the best of the best – a lovely, vibrant mile-square “city” that has faster and easier commutes to Midtown than the Upper East Side! But what brought me back up North – and allowed me to realize I was miserable in Florida – were 2-year-old Alexandra and her soon-to-be-born sister Vivian. That was in 2006 and I’ve never looked back. Everything about being here – and being a hands-on grandmother - has been and continues to be pure joy.
A long-time member of Redeemer NYC, imagine my delight to find the Redeemer Hoboken family . . . the best part of being here. What an amazing group of people who are really committed to the Lord, and my home fellowship group, led by elder Gary Lawrence, has been a Godsend! Everyone should run not walk to sign up for a home fellowship group – you’ll be blessed beyond all you could ask or think!
In another life I was a senior producer of TV specials, pilots, etc. as well as over 500 TV commercials on behalf of candidates running for national political office (I often say I’m a recovering political TV producer). Now, I’m a consultant and project manager, and a member of NAPO (the National Association of Professional Organizers). I help clients manage difficult projects, assisting them in achieving clarity by simplifying the complex and providing specialized input on strategy, implementation, and execution. I’ve done a few projects for Hoboken’s Mustard Seed School, which is headed up by two Redeemerites: Christine Metzger, Head of School, and Gary Lawrence, Assistant to the Head and Math Chair.

I grew up on the Jersey shore and have lived most of the last 13 years in Hoboken. Nancy and I were married on October 3, 2009. We are expecting a baby girl on July 4th. It was on Independence Day in 1988 that I became a Christian after hearing the gospel probably hundreds of times from faithful and persistent believers (Gal. 6:9). This Redeemer Hoboken church is among my richest of blessings and in response I feel a strong calling from God to give back and contribute to her mission. That is why I serve as a Trustee.

I grew up on Long Island and have lived near NYC my entire life. I am married with two kids and have been living in Hudson County for over 15 years, the last ten in West New York. I have been attending Redeemer Hoboken since the very first service, which I guess makes me one of the real veterans in the church. Being a trustee has been quite interesting, especially learning all of the expenses a church has in order to run two services.
