The Deaconate & Volunteer Opportunities

The Deaconate

Each member of the Diaconate is here to tell us about the ministries they are involved with and the related volunteer opportunities for either Home Fellowship Groups or individuals.

Feel free to contact any them for more info and how you can be involved in helping our community! They are here to serve, help you to serve, and know where your offering to the Diaconate is being used.

What Happened?

Mary Miles: Hospitality Coordinator

Mary, Reagan, and YoungThe woman behind the great coffee (that we need) every Sunday morning tells us a little about herself.

I grew up in West Tennessee. My mom was a teacher and my dad was (and still is) a preacher.  We always had people over for meals.  I learned great southern hospitality from my mom.  So, I guess it is natural for me to have the gift of hospitality.

Behind the scenes of the hospitality ministry at Redeemer Hoboken:
Two and a half years ago, when the morning service began, the hospitality ministry was a lot of work. Our team of 8 people in a rotation made the coffee in huge urns each week and picked up mini muffins from Shop Rite.  Since last summer (2009), we've developed a relationship with the Dunkin' Donuts on Adams and 11th.  Now, we pick up coffee already made, along with bagels and munchkins.  That has made it so much easier for everyone involved!  Plus, everyone seems to love Dunkin' Donuts.  The hospitality ministry is also responsible for setting up the communion table, filling up the cups and preparing the matzo.

Our wonderful helpers include Reagan Barron, Marcy Gupta, Young Ko, and Sara Peterson. Because of different life events, our team is now down to only 5 people.  So, if you are willing and able, we'd love to expand our team and have you join us in serving the congregation!

Girls Night Social

A few weeks ago, I attended the Girls Night event at Three Forty Grill in Hoboken.  I was able to catch up with old friends from church and ladies that I never had the chance to meet.

The event was on a Thursday night, which was perfect, because it gave us all a chance to unwind from the long week.  We all had a great time sharing appetizers and good conversation.  I'm really looking forward to seeing what God does over the next few months as plans continue to develop for the ladies’ outings.  I'm confident that He will connect the women of the church in many amazing ways.
