Benefit Art Auction for Through the Eyes of Hope

Redeemer Hoboken has had the opportunity over the past year to support Through the Eyes of Hope Project in various ways. This project uses photography to help children in Rwanda explore the world as they see it. It also teaches them a trade and gives them a practical way of earning money to pay for school. On March 26th the project held an art auction to raise funds and was again greatly supported by the church.

This was the fifth art auction that the project has held and it was one of the most successful. Guests crowded into the Neighborhood Church in Greenwich Village and enjoyed the gallery of art donated by artists from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. As they mingled and listened to the music, those in attendance took part in a silent auction for the art on display. After a brief video describing the project, the bidding began. By the time the dust settled most of the art was gone and $1,200 had been raised! All of the money raised will be used to buy cameras, batteries, memory cards, printers, computers and other items to help the sustainability of the project.

The atmosphere of the night was created by the amazing music of Hoboken Redeemer’s own musicians. Katie Suter, Carey Finn and Jerry Rago sang while David Leitman tickled the ivories. Audience participation was the name of the game as Jeremy Thompson and our host from the Neighborhood Church jumped in on drums. This music set the tone for the evening and ensured that everyone had a great time.

The turnout was wonderful and the help and input of the artists, musicians and guests was greatly blessed. The work God is doing through the community and the church to support this project has been truly amazing.

Through this work the children of Rwanda will continue to be blessed with the opportunity to express themselves and share their experience with the world.
